Podřípský nativity scene – Bechlín

In the picturesque village of Bechlín near Roudnice nad Labem, you can see a separate modern nativity scene with figurines made of corn husk in a cozy shop.

Mechanical Podřípský nativity scene

  • impressive exposition opened year-round
  • ideal for families with children, tours and school trips combined with a visit to Mount Říp
  • multimedia scene illuminated and electronically controlled for 20 min.
  • a set of more than 220 figures from corn husks on an area of 4×2 m
  • 38 moving figures

This is the first nativity scene of its type in our country and in all of Europe. Illuminated and with sound effects moving scenes will surely delight both small and grown visitors. The story of the Birth is presented to the audience in an engaging form of gradually uncovering individual scenes by the lighting of the comet. It presents typical combination of birth of Jesus and demonstration of the life of people in the village in the Baroque period in Bohemia.

The artist Kateřina Hejdová created a unique fairy-tale scenery on an area of 4x2 m. The author of the figurines made of corn husk and the owner of the shop is Jiřina Šustrová. Erik Schmidt was responsible for motion mechanics, electronic motion control and light effects.

For visitors to the Podřípský Nativity Scene, who come in groups, we prepare year-round workshops on folk traditions, such as gingerbread pressed into wooden molds, products from corn husks and rye straw, blueprint production. At the end of the visit, they can create their own LIVE BETHLEHEM.

We organize a tour of the nativity scene and workshops for groups according to a previous order. Individual visitors do not have to order in advance.
