Church of St. Jakub – Litoměřice

Church of St. Jakub with the monastery is located on Dominikánské Square not far from Mír Square. It was founded as a monastic church of Franciscan monks (Minors).

The facade of the church attracts your eye not only with the dynamically processed architecture of Octavian Broggio, but also with statues of St. Francis of Assisi, St. Antonín Paduánský and the titular saint of the church of St. Jakub the Greater. All three sculptures can be associated with the Minorits. The main structure to hold to the account of the Dominicans is the main portal of the church, which in the cartouche bears the emblem of the Dominican order, ie a dog with a torch in its mouth.

The interior of the church is relatively modest. The side altars are mainly from the second half of the 18th century, as well as a pulpit and a large Stations of the Cross, all created by local artists, including the Hennevogel family.

During the Thirty Years' War, it was destroyed. It was rebuilt in the 18th century. Today it is a “cultural monument of the Czech Republic.”
