Děčín Town

The town of Děčín is the lowest town on the Elbe and lies on the border of the Central Bohemian Uplands and Bohemian Switzerland.

Děčín town is located in the Labe river valley, on the place where the two tributaries of Labe – the Ploučnice river from the right side, and the Jílovský creek from the left side – separate the landscape of the Central Bohemian Uplands from the rocky slopes of Labe Sandstone Rocks.

The Labe valley changes into a canyon and enters the Labe Sandstone Rocks Area in Děčín. The Labe river is also a natural axis of the town. The altitude of Děčín is 135 metres above the sea level which makes it the lowest-located town in the Czech Republic. Its population is about 50.000 inhabitants and the town is also an important port.

As for cycling, it is a key junction of several long-distance cycling trails. In Přípeř part of Děčín, there is a junction of the cycling trail number 23 (named Kruškohorská long-distance trail) and the cycling trail number 2 (the Labe cycling trail). The popular tourist destinations of Děčín are for example the local chateau, the ZOO at the Pastýřská stěna rock or so-called via ferrata.

There is also a lot of hiking possibilities: an interesting educational trail called The Labe Canyon starts by the Stoličná mountain. On the left bank of the river, you can follow the red, green, and yellow tourist trails.
