Lobkowicz Castle Winery - Roudnice nad Labem

Fratava is a new blue variety officially recognized in 2008. It is a clone of Frankovka and Svatovavřinecké vine. Of the total of about 7 ha of Fratava, which are planted in the Czech Republic, 4 ha are in our vineyards. Fratava is certified as ČESKÉ STŘEDOHOŘÍ Regional product.

Wines have been produced in the medieval cellars of the Roudnice chateau under the administration of the Lobkowicz family since 1603. The tradition of vine growing and wine production in Roudnice nad Labem is even older, as evidenced by historical records of the Sovice or Hájka winery, which are still in operation.

To this day, the Lobkowicz winery has preserved a number of traditional methods, so the care of the vine and the production of wine still includes tremendous amount of careful manual labor. In the production of Fratava and other red wines, we use the method of uncontrolled fermentation, where after the harvest, ground grape ferment in open containers and are regularly hand-mixed. The wine then matures exclusively in oak barrels. This traditional procedure together with the climatic conditions of the vineyard and the varietal characteristics affect the special character of the red wines from our production. Fratava offers various flavors from fresh fruit and plums to spicy and dark chocolate tones.

Tastings

Roudnice wines can be tasted in the wine pavilion, as part of a tour of the castle and chateau or in a wine festivals - Roudnice winetasting festival, Roudnice vintage and more.

Tours of the castle cellars with tasting

In the 2020 season, you can also use a tour of the castle cellars as a tasting opportunity. It is organized thanks to cooperation of Říp o.p.s. with Lobkowicz Castle Winery. On certain dates, those interested will be able to see the wine cellars, which are located under the castle. To see places where more than 300 years Roudnice Lobkowicz wines have been created and thus directly continuing the tradition dating back to the Prague bishops.

The offer of tours includes the possibility of both a somple tour of the wine cellars and the possibility of ending this tour in front of the wine pavilion with tasting of 5 wine samples - Solaris 2018 late dry harvest, Müller Thurgau 2019 semi-dry, Riesling 2018 selection of semi-sweet grapes, frizzante Blue Portugal Rosé 2018 and Svatovavřinecké 2013 late dry harvest.
