Raná

The Raná hill together with the neighbouring Oblík hill is the main landscape dominant of the town of Louny, from which it is located 6 km to the northwest.

It is one of the most beautiful and interesting hills of the Bohemian Central Highlands, a visit to which is an unforgettable experience. Although its altitude of 457.2m is far from being one of the giants, it stands out from the flat Poohří as a very distinctive peak. The bare and steep slopes of Rana attract not only naturalists and hikers in search of a distant view, but especially fans of all kinds of non-motorized flying, for whom this mountain is a cult place.

Unlike most of the neighbouring conical hills (Oblík, Srdov, Brník, Milá, Křížové vršky), Raná is separated by a narrow, almost 1 km long, longitudinal ridge with three peaks. Nevertheless, when viewed from the southwest or the northeast, the silhouette of Rané appears as a typical cone due to its steep symmetrical slopes. The main peak is located in the middle of the ridge, the two lower peaks rise on its sides (south-eastern, north-western). The graceful shape of the almost bare mountain is disturbed by the traces of the former quarry in addition to the forest cover on the northern slope. It was located near the village of the same name, at the eastern foot.

A blue hiking trail leads to the top. The ascent can be started in Louny, Lenešice or Hrádek. The shorter way to the top, however, is along an unmarked route from the parking lot near the village of Raná.

The southern slope is a National Nature Reserve. It is an important area with the occurrence of dry-loving thermophilic grasses. In the grasses we can find rock tansy, lily of the valley, or the waterless goat's-foot. Among the fauna, this area is inhabited by, for example, the common gopher, the eelgrass gull or the critically endangered blue-headed ligrus. However, it is also the cradle of Czechoslovak sailing.
