Statue of saint Vojtěch

The work of sculptor Stanislav Hanzík was unveiled in 1996 in the lower part of Charles Square.

The statue is placed as if the saint was heading for the former ford across the river Elbe on his way to Pomerania. St. Vojtěch was a Czech bishop who died a martyr's death in 997 on his missionary journey. Today he is often called the first European from Czechia.
