From the first weekend in March, the Špindlerův-Most bridge in Roudnice nad Labem will be closed for more than a year for reconstruction. The reconstruction will remedy the main deficiencies of the existing bridge, i.e. reduced load-bearing capacity of the supporting structure, deficiencies in the substructure and drainage. This is a partial restriction for cyclists on the Elbe cycle path. The main route of the Elbe cycle path leads directly over the bridge. It can be crossed on foot during the reconstruction work. Cyclists can cross the Elbe at this point, but only have to carry their bikes over the bridge. Traffic on the cycle path under the bridge is not restricted and cyclists can cycle directly under the bridge on the Elbe cycle path.
Long-distance cyclists continuing along the Elbe Cycle Route to Litoměřice can use the alternative route of the Elbe Cycle Route 2A, which leads along the left bank of the Elbe through Židovice and Hrobce and then through Terezín to Litoměřice. On this route, it is not necessary to use the bridge in Roudnice, but it must be taken into account that the cycle path partly runs on roads. The same route can be used by cyclists travelling from Litoměřice to Štětí or to Mělník.
The alternative route of the Elbe Cycle Route 2A can be found here on the map.
