Folk architecture

The picturesque village square with a chapel in the middle concentrates a valuable complex of mostly brick two-storey buildings of former rich farmhouses, which is occasionally supplemented by a building with a timbered floor.

Between Úštěk and and Verneřice an ancient town of Levín stands on a mountain with an unmistakable and unique atmosphere.

In the Verneřická part of the Central Bohemian Uplands, a village stretches along the Merboltický brook for about 4 km. It is a beautiful example of a valley village.

The only open-air museum in northern Bohemia shows the housing, the culture and the connection between the original inhabitants and the landscape in the former Sudetland and its transformation after the war.

The village was mentioned as early as the 11th century and until recently drew its wealth mainly from the cultivation of hops.

Today, a large village with a dominant Baroque church and chateau lies on a sloped terrain in a dinamic landscape of wooded hills at the foot of Mount Kalich with the ruins of Jan Žižka Castle.
