It is a national natural monument in the Czech Central Highlands Protected Landscape Area. The subject of protection is a freely accessible former small quarry, whose exposed section proves that explosive volcanic activity took place here in the past. There is an exposed rock wall on which special structures similar to children's drawings of the sun are visible - hence the name Kamenná slance.
The site is accessible from the road between Hnojnice and Koštice. There is no marked trail leading here, but even so, this geological feature is easily accessible.
