Peruc

Peruc lies about 14 km from the district town of Louny, as well as from Libochovice and Budyně nad Ohří. Peruc is the place from where, according to legend, the Přemyslid prince Oldřich brought the beautiful peasant woman Božena, who washed clothes at the well, to Prague Castle at the beginning of the 11th century and made her his wife and princess.

In Perec, you can visit the monumental tree "Oldřich's Oak", which is one of the oldest trees in the country and according to its age, it is estimated that it could have witnessed the meeting of Oldřich and Božena. In Perec, you can also visit Božena's well.

Peruc also offers other monuments that are not related to Oldřich and Božena. The Baroque chateau in the centre of the village with the Emil Filla Memorial Hall is worth a visit. This leading representative of Czech Cubism often stayed here in the 1940s and 1950s. The Baroque granary in the castle garden houses the Museum of the Czech Village. Near the village of Peruc, we recommend visiting two lookout towers that offer surprisingly distant views, especially of the Bohemian Central Highlands. The Stradonka beam lookout tower above the village of Stradonice stands on the site of a Celtic oppidum from the 5th century BC. The second viewpoint, more precisely a viewing arbour, is called Krásná vyhlídka, also Čechova vyhlídka.
