Museum railway to Zubrnice and walk to Bukova mountain

Take the historic train and the T3 tourist line from Ústí nad Labem via Velké Březno to Zubrnice, from where it is possible to take a hiking trip to Bukova mountain.

The Zubrinka Museum Railway, also known as the T3 tourist line, runs several times a day on weekends and holidays from April to the end of October. The journey to Zubrnice from Střekov railway station in Ústí nad Labem takes about 40 minutes and offers many interesting views during the journey. In Zubrnice, the first place to visit is the local Railway Museum, where you can see a working model railway track, a historic transport office, historic coaches and railway engines. The village of Zubrnice itself is largely part of the Open-Air Museum (also known as the open-air museum), which presents life in the village at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It consists of a collection of buildings of folk architecture and includes a period well and farmhouses in the village square, a shop, a mill by the stream, a school behind the church, a drying room, granaries, barns, a chapel and a church.

The trip to Zubrnice can be extended by climbing Beech Mountain. From Zubrnice you can take the red or green hiking trail. We choose the red trail. The trail is approximately 4.5 km long and leads through charming nature with diverse fauna and flora. Moreover, along the way you can see the remains of the extinct settlement Stará Homole. After ascending Beech Mountain, you will be greeted by the tower of the television transmitter. It is a distinctive landmark of the Bohemian Central Highlands. However, this tower does not serve as a lookout point, so you have to continue along the red road to the local Humboldt lookout point. It offers a beautiful view of the Elbe River valley and the surrounding peaks of the Bohemian Central Highlands. Go back down the green trail, which joins the red trail again at the last 1 km. You can then return to Ústí nad Labem by the Zubrnice Museum Railway or by a regular bus that runs directly from the village square in Zubrnice.

Open-air museum and historical dresins - Zubrnice

The only open-air museum in northern Bohemia shows the housing, the culture and the connection between the original inhabitants and the landscape in the former Sudetland and its transformation after the war.

The basis of the Open-air museum Zubrnice is the historical village. The set of buildings of vernacular architecture is made of timbered, half-timbered and brick buildings.

The complex of buildings resembles the life and work of people from the farmstead. For example, we can find a timbered building, a village shop or a small water mill powered by the water from the Luční brook. The exposition of an old village school is also very interesting. Folk fairs have become a tradition in the museum (on Easter, in autumn and on Christmas), when the village appears more traditional.

An intresting technical monument is the train station built in the year 1890 to the local railway Velké Březno – Úštěk – Verneřice. The Railway Museum in the area of the station in Zubrnice offers an exhibition of the history and present of the railway, a view of a small transport office with old equipment or historic draisines. Rides are available for those interested. Part of the track (11 km) was listed in the list of monuments of the Czech Republic. The owner and operator of the museum is the organization Zubrnická museum railway.
