Polabské trails for wine and knowledge

Due to the location of the Litoměřice and Mělník wine sub-region, the Polabská Trail was created to connect the possibilities of tourism attractions.

Polabské trails for wine and knowledge connects two wine sub-regions of Bohemia

It is a link between the Litoměřice wine sub-region and the Mělník wine sub-region and their most important tourist destinations and wine-growing localities. The route starts in Roudnice nad Labem and continues through Kyškovice, Hoštka, Štětí and Liběchov to Mělník. There are several information boards along the route, which provide visitors with information about attractive tourist destinations near the route. While travelling along this trail, it is possible to visit several wineries and taste wines from both wine sub-regions of Bohemia.

Czech University of Agriculture in Prague, Wine Centre Mělník

The Mělník Wine Centre belonging to the Czech University of Agriculture in Prague is one of the wine-growing entities of the Mělník wine sub-region.

The ČZU winery has been operating here since 1980, but the first mention of wine processing dates back to 1628. The most successful vine clones suitable for the Mělník area were used for planting the vineyards. The planting material for the vineyards was mainly imported from the Rhine basin wine-growing areas, which are climatically identical to the conditions in Mělník, which was also the purpose of the research. Currently, the primary task is the representation of the ČZU in Prague, the practical teaching of students of various disciplines, the possibility for students to carry out practical experiments in the creation of bachelor and diploma theses and the achievement of economic self-sufficiency. The centre grows grapes and fruit on an area of about 20 ha of land, including 12.75 ha of vineyards, which produce 30 000 litres of wine per year - 35 000 bottles.
