Follow the monuments of Roundice nad Labem

You can follow the monuments of Roudnice along a special roundtrip with a number of stops at selected monuments. The starting point is a signpost at the Roudnice castle.

The Sokol cinema

The original idea to build a cinema hall was started with the intention of the Jednota Sokol gym to obtain a stable source of income for the construction of the gym's hall.

This idea began to be gradually implemented in 1926, when Jednota applied for a concession to operate a cinema. In January 1927, at the Sokol General Meeting, the intended construction was approved.

The project plan was to by created by one of the pioneers of Czech modern architecture, the disciple of prof. Jan Kotěra, acad. arch. Kamil Roškot. Thanks to the enlightenment of the Sokol executives, today's Roudnice can be proud of a completely unique, stylistically clean, functionalist building. However, the monumental, almost 117 meters long extension of the nearby gymnasium was never completed. It remained only in the study phase, again by architect Kamil Roškot.
