Museum of Podřipsko

The Podřip Museum was founded in 1900 and disappeared at some point of the 1950s and 1960s. It was restored in 2004.

The permanent exhibition in its current form presents an overall picture of the history and settlement of the town of Roudnice nad Labem and the Roudnice region, starting with the prehistoric period, which is represented by numerous archaeological finds, but also a model of a house from the Late Stone Age. This part of the exhibition is enriched by a collection of minerals from all over Bohemia and Moravia and a small picture gallery, documenting the geological development of Mount Říp from its inception to the present. In the medieval part of the exhibition, the stone emblem of Bishop John IV. of Dražice stands out among the other exhibits, which was originally part of the Gothic bridge over Elbe (the third oldest building of its kind in Bohemia). The exhibition also includes unique wooden structural elements of this bridge, as well as stone blocks originating from various parts of the bridge. In the next part of the exhibition, the visitor will get to know the history of the very important Lobkowicz family, ruling in Roudnice from the beginning of the 17th century. There are also numerous exhibits from this period, such as a twelve-part wooden panel nativity scene or the painting cycle The Way of the Cross by the painter M. Künzl, which was originally located in the church of St. Barbora in Ječovice. Modern history is represented by period photographs and archives documenting life in the city and its surroundings in the 19th and 1st half of the 20th century. This part of the permanent exhibition also includes a block dedicated to the Roudnice company "Veselý". In the 1920s, this company was an important player of the toy industry at the national level and became known to the public thanks to the production of children's polytechnic kits Archimedes and Edison. In this part, the visitor will also find a model of the Říp mountain, the inspiration of which became a well-known historical postcard with the futuristic theme "Říp of the future". The interesting thing about the model called "Mechanical Říp" is that it is made entirely of the famous Merkur kit.

A separate part of the exhibition is a numismatic collection. It consists of coins illustrating the development of Czech coinage from the 11th century until the end of Czechoslovakia.
