Kratochvíl's lookout tower

The lookout tower was built in 1934 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the "Podřipské Peasant Credit Union". It is named after the founder of the credit union, Václav Kratochvíl.

For this purpose, an elevated site above the town near the krabčická road was chosen. Roudnice could thus boast a nice view and a quality architectural work. The design of the tower was commissioned from the Technical University in Prague and according to the design of Ing. Otakar Štěpánek, the construction was carried out in 1934 by the Roudnice construction firm Hádl a Hájek.

It is a purely functionalist building, the viewing area of which is supported by six slender columns. A column passes through the centre of the building, which bears a round flat roof at its upper end. A spindle staircase winds along this central column. Copper plates with a schematically engraved panorama of the surrounding landscape have been fixed around the perimeter of the upper edge of the full railing of the viewing area. In the lower part of the lookout tower there is a relief plaque with a depiction of Václav Kratochvíl, a leading Czech revivalist and pioneer of modern economy in the second half of the 19th century, among others also the founder of the "Podřipská Peasant Credit Union". Kratochvíl's lookout tower, together with the lookout tower on Mostná hora in Litoměřice, is the lowest lookout tower in the Czech Republic (230 m above sea level).

Current information about the time when the tower is open.
